Motorsport: reading the driver at the wheel of a real car

On track, everything the car does is recorded. What the driver goes through is not. The vision: the same measurement as in the simulator, cognitive load, attention and fatigue, at the wheel of a real car, so a session can be read with the driver behind every input.

01 · What it measures

What the instrument measures in the driver

Cognitive load

How hard the brain is working into each braking zone, each overtake, each restart.

Attention and fatigue

When focus narrows and when vigilance drops across a stint.

Physiological cost

Heart rate and head movements, so mental effort is told apart from physical effort.

02 · What it brings

A human channel next to the telemetry

Engineers already read every input of the car. The driver's state is the channel they lack: the lap where load peaked, the corner where attention dropped, the stint where fatigue set in.

In the debrief, "the driver felt off" becomes data, and each driver follows their progress from one session to the next.

The driver, read like the car.

03 · In practice

How it is used, and for whom

How it is used

The instrument is worn by the driver during the session. The measurement is aligned on the car's data, then read in the debrief, lap by lap and corner by corner.

Who it's for

  • Racing drivers
  • Teams and driver development programmes
  • Coaches and race engineers
